Right to Choose ADHD in Warwickshire: GP referral and local policy

Coventry and Warwickshire's May 2026 policy reopened referral routes for all ages, replacing an earlier temporary pause for adults aged 25 and over. A referral is still a clinical decision; acceptance and waiting times are not guaranteed.

Do not rely on the old age-25 pause

Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust reports that the ICB's policy introduced on 14 May 2026 reopened referral routes for all ages. The update says GP decisions consider clinical and functional impact and describes a quality-based provider framework.

Reopening a route does not mean every referral will be accepted or that waits will be short. The Trust says waiting times remain long.

Your next steps

The local Trust's diagnostic service is not, by itself, a list of Right to Choose providers. Ask your GP which pathway and provider arrangements apply to you.

  1. Book a GP appointment to discuss your difficulties and their everyday impact.
  2. Ask about referral under the current Coventry and Warwickshire policy.
  3. Ask whether your preferred provider is eligible and accepting NHS-funded referrals.
  4. Confirm the paperwork, onward care and waiting-time information with the GP and provider.
